Athens, the capital of Greece, is a fantastic city and has an enormously rich history. You will find many ruins, museums and buildings. The Acropolis is the most famous ruin and the symbol of Athens. From the Acropolis you have a wonderful view over the city, the Ancient Agora and Plaka district. Plaka is the nicest area of Athens, it is a maze of narrow streets and alleys. You will find many souvenir shops and can enjoy a meal and drinks at one of the many terraces.
The National Archaeological Museum is another highlight. It is one of the largest and most important museums of ancient Greece.
In Athens it's most easy to move by metro. Metro stations are clean and many are set up as museum with pieces found during the excavation of the subway system.
Acropolis , with the the Parthenon as highlight is the most famous landmark of Athens. At night its beautifully illuminated.
The Temple of Zeus was 96 meters long and 40 meters wide. There were 104 massive columns, each 17 meters high. Today there are only 15 columns standing.
Plaka is the most touristic and liveliest area of Athens with many picturesque streets and hundreds of tourist shops and restaurants.
