East of the Cyclades, near the Turkish coast lies the archipelago of the Dodecanese. Dodecanese literaly means 12 islands but actually this archipelago comprises of several islands more. Only since 1948 those islands officialy belong back to Greece. There have always been other rulers, the last were the Italians. You can clearly see this in the architecture of some of the islands. Despite all these foreign influences, the islands are real Greek.
The Dodecanese have a strong attraction to its visitors because of the healthy climate, the sun and the clear sea.
