Patmos is a small, rough-looking island of volcanic origin and has a surface area of approximately 34 km2. It is the northernmost island of the Dodecanese and is known for the world famous John's Monastery, located at the highest point of the island. This monastery and the white buildings below determine the face of Patmos. Patmos is one of the most important Greek religious centers, as the Apostle John stayed here 18 months in a cave and was inspired to write the last book of the New Testament, Revelation. Patmos has a very relaxed atmosphere with friendly residents.
