The island of Rhodes is, with a surface area of approximately 1398 km2, the largest island of the Dodecanese and has a rich history. Rhodes-city is a very attractive city and has a new and an old section. The Old Town of Rhodes town is the best preserved medieval fortification in Europe and is called a world cultural heritage monument by UNESCO. It consists of a picturesque walled old town with narrow cobblestone streets and many squares with cafes and shops. In the new part are the modern stores.
The island is a well developed tourist resort and besides Rhodes Town the other major attraction is the white village of Lindos. Lindos is a small whitewashed village with an ancient acropolis and has narrow streets with small shops. Rhodes has a combination of beautiful beaches, attractions and unspoilt interior. Rhodes, however, do has a lot of really touristy places.
Lindos is also called "the white town" and is well worth a visit. Above the old town lies the interesting Acropolis.
